Anthony’s time on the desks runs close to thirty years. He began trading options at JPMorgan in 1995, went on to run the banks Australian equities and Singapore books, and later built long/short portfolios at UBS that placed inside the global top 25 out of more than a thousand. A spell generating ideas for Tantallon Capital in Asia followed, and he now chairs the investment committee at Australia’s Heritage Capital Group. He has spent years coaching traders one to one, previously as a mentor at the Institute of Trading and Portfolio Management (ITPM), with former students now sitting on desks from London to Singapore, Shanghai and Melbourne.

Ed Shek

25 Years

Profitably traded European banks through the 2008 financial crisis.

Edward traded for a living for a quarter of a century. More than ten of those years were spent at Goldman Sachs, moving between its London, Tokyo and New York desks, where he worked convertibles, warrants and cash equities and ran a $100m long/short book in European names. He then traded European banks and insurers straight through the 2008–09 crash at Cazenove and JP Morgan Cazenove, later took charge of the emerging-markets (CEEMEA) desk, and went on to head equities trading at BCS Global. A physics graduate of King’s College London, he has since passed that experience on to newer traders, previously as a mentor at ITPM.

Jason McDonald

Ran a $500m Pan-European proprietary equities book.

Jason read Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Magdalen College, Oxford, before spending seventeen years inside proprietary desks and hedge funds, among them BZW, CSFB and its in-house fund Modal Capital, the MAKO volatility fund, Lehman Brothers and TD. As a senior proprietary trader at Commerzbank he was handed a $500m Pan-European equities book plus a further $250m of global long/short, with risk arbitrage and volatility at the heart of how he traded. He has since mentored developing traders, previously with ITPM, where he also had a hand in deciding which of them earned trading capital.

Raj Malhotra

Made Managing Director at Bank of America before 30.

Raj left the Wharton School with an economics degree and spent thirteen years trading equity options. He started on S&P 500 index options at BNP and its Cooper Neff fund, then moved to Bank of America Securities in New York, where he rose to Head of Institutional Options Trading and made Managing Director before turning 30, dealing with some of the largest hedge funds in the market. A stint helping stand up Nomura’s US business followed. He has also mentored options traders across the US and Canada, previously through ITPM.
